Day and Night Progression

The Blood of Dawnwalker Build Guide

Coen levels one character across two bodies. Skill points buy into three trees, and the loadout you carry swaps automatically at dawn and dusk. Training also costs time from the 30-day budget, which makes build order a scheduling decision as much as a combat one.

Points Are Permanent, So Spend Them in This Order

There is no respec in the release version and no medic will refund a point, which makes the first ten choices the ones that matter. Perks tagged Sun and Moon stay active in both forms, so they never sit idle for half of every day. Buy those before you commit anything to a branch that only fires after dark.

  • Sun and Moon perks first: they pay out in human daylight and vampire night alike.
  • Second Skin, in the Swordmastery tree, is the gate on armour. Coen starts locked to light armour, and equipping medium without maxing the first rank of Second Skin hits your base stats hard.
  • Sustained Focus adds an activation charge per rank, which is what lets you hold a two-charge ability instead of dumping charges the moment you get them.

Passives Do Nothing Until You Slot Them

Unlocking a passive is only half the transaction. Until you place it on the radial build wheel it has no effect at all, which is the single most common reason a build feels weaker than the points spent on it. Check the wheel after every level-up.

  • Passives from the weapon trees cross over. Swiftness grants its attack-speed bonus on perfect blocks for melee weapons and vampire claws, day and night.
  • Skills sitting in your tree unslotted are wasted points until you move them onto the wheel.

The Early Skills That Actually Carry

A handful of nodes do disproportionate work in the first chapters. These are the ones worth routing towards.

SkillTreeWhat it does
ChargeSwordmasteryOne activation charge, closes distance and stuns for a few seconds. Works with vampire claws without a weapon swap, and reaches a 100% bleed chance after two upgrades.
Artery StrikeSwordmastery450% weapon damage with a base 10% instant-kill chance, both scaling with investment. Costs two charges and needs a melee weapon equipped.
BroadswingSwordmasterySweeps everything directly in front of you for two charges. Melee weapon only, so it goes dead in claw form.
CounterattackSwordmasterySits under Perfect Riposte and adds a flat 10% to the attack that follows a perfect block.
Soul ReapingWitchcraftLife steal on a single enemy that keeps siphoning even after you switch targets. Needs a manual before you can unlock it.
Voracious BiteVampirismAvailable from the start: teleports you behind a target, drains their health and restores your own.

The Three Trees

TreeFights for you whenWhat it buys
WitchcraftDay and nightHexes, ranged pressure and traversal utility.
SwordmasteryDaytime, human formDirectional parries, counters and weapon specials.
VampirismNighttime, vampire formClaws, feeding, Shadowstep and beast form.

Two Picks Worth Buying Immediately

Both of these are traversal, not damage, and both pay for themselves in saved clock.

  • Shapeshift (Vampirism) — cuts the time cost of crossing regions.
  • Mercurial Fervor (Witchcraft) — the second half of the same movement package.
  • Shadowstep lets you climb walls and buildings at night, which makes the world far easier to navigate after dark.

Build Order Is a Time Decision

Skill training spends time blocks from the same 30-day budget as quests and travel. Buying a node you will not use for a week is a real cost, so favour traversal and the form you fight in most before deepening a tree.

  • You are stronger at night with claws than in daylight with a sword.
  • Free exploration costs nothing, so scout before committing training time.

If one boss is walling your build, drop the preset for that fight and raise it again afterwards. The difficulty presets guide shows where to switch it mid-game.
