Xanthe is the eldest of the three Court Vampires ruling Vale Sangora under Lord Brencis. Her confrontation in the Sunken Mausoleum ends not with a simple execution, but with a defining moral fork involving her masked daughter Hariclea. Sparing her creates an inside ally, while slaying her offers unique soul absorption perks.
Context: The Missing Daughters of Svatza
Investigating the abductions across Svatza leads into the flooded catacombs where Xanthe is harvesting vital essence to prolong the life of her decaying daughter Hariclea (Claire).
Combat Strategy: Defeating Xanthe
Xanthe uses swift rapier combos, mist teleports, and miasma ground bursts. Silver weapons and fire oils deal bonus stagger.
- Scarlet Lunge: dodge sideways rather than parrying directly to avoid bleed build-up.
- Shadow Phantasm: when she turns to red mist, immediately prepare a 180-degree turn block as she re-emerges behind you.
- Miasma Shockwave: sprint clear of the large red floor glyph when she charges her rapier overhead.
- Clear Thralls: eliminate her masked summon minions immediately with wide AoE swings before focusing back on Xanthe.

How to Secure the Alliance (Spare Route)
- When Xanthe falls and shields Hariclea, pick non-hostile dialogue: 'Speak to me' -> 'Who is she? That girl in the mask.'
- When she demands questions, ask 'Why have you done this to your daughter?'
- Agree to terms: 'All right. Let's work together. I can't risk this going wrong.' Never select the crossed-swords combat prompt during dialogue.
Soul Absorption on the Execution Route
- Reject her parley with 'Go to hell, Xanthe. I'm not interested in anything you have to offer.'
- After the finishing blow, choose 'I invite you in, Xanthe' to absorb her essence and unlock the Lament of the Maskmaker perk.
- Alternatively, choose 'I will not take you with me' to let her soul dissipate, preserving Coen's spiritual independence.
